About Us

History

The NGO was developed from a small set of activities for children and women to a more comprehensive community development approach. From the very inception, the Society undertakes various development missions with thrust on empowering the people through knowledge, collective efforts etc. so as to enable them to help themselves. The various developmental measures undertaken by the society include, Awareness awakening programmes, low cost housing   and sanitation programmes for the poor, Community  health development programmes, Income generation programmes such as rabbit rearing, animal husbandry, poultry, small and cottage industries etc. with the active participation of the benefiting people. Accordingly thousands of poor and arginalized families could be helped to improve their socio-economic and health conditions.

The NGO has organized 523 Self Help Groups in 34 villages to inculcate saving habits among the rural poor. Each SHG  has 15 to 20 members and a democratically elected  and live governing body for the regulation of its affairs. Apart from promoting thrift and savings, the SHGs arrange low interest loan facilities for its members for meeting their emergency needs.

The Society has also vocational training programmes in carpentry, masonary, tailoring and typewriting with a view to generate employment to unemployed youths. The society is actively involved in the development of the poor and weaker sections in the areas of its intervention.

It has facilitated development of many people’s organizations in these backward areas. Thus Village Development Associations are actively involved in the development efforts undertaken by the Society for the development of the rural poor comprising of small and marginal farmers, agriculture labourers, village artisans etc.

As part of the human resource development programmes intensive and extensive skill development and training programmes were organized by the Society. It helped to develop the local leadership and strengthening of the grass root level organizations. HRD programmes were conducted for all  functionaries including staff, leaders, animators, activists etc.

Women development programmes were also given adequate thrust so as to enhance the status of women in general besides enhancing their participation in
